My beautiful cocoon orchid

They belongs to the epiphytic orchids, known as epiphytes, they sit on top of other plants. Its aerial roots are like those of a vanda.

However, the aerial roots of an epiphytic orchid are something very special, they form the multilayered Velamen radicum. These are dead cells and tissue that surround the aerial roots. This tissue absorb their nutrients and water.
